Oppo's next software chapter goes global this week. The company has confirmed that ColorOS 17, its Android 17-based interface, launches globally on October 13 at 11 AM CEST, following a stable rollout in China that has been underway since October 8. The event will reveal the full feature set — but the biggest story is not a feature at all. It is the end of OxygenOS.
OnePlus has retired OxygenOS in favor of ColorOS globally, and the transition is already in motion. OnePlus opened ColorOS 17 Open Beta registrations on October 9–12 for OnePlus 15 users in India — with programs also covering the OnePlus 15R, 13, 13s, and 13R — and when the final build lands, OnePlus 15 users will permanently migrate from OxygenOS to ColorOS. There is no OxygenOS 17. There will not be one. Realme UI is going the same way as a separate skin, making ColorOS the single software platform across Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme.
Beta participants should go in with eyes open. The beta is not the final build, so bugs, heating, battery drain, and app compatibility issues are expected. More importantly, the exit path is destructive: rolling back to OxygenOS 16 requires a local rollback package that wipes the device completely. OnePlus recommends a full backup before installing.
So what does ColorOS 17 actually bring? Oppo has been deliberately secretive, teasing only "fluid motion" and "refined visuals" so far. Reporting points to a Fluid Fusion design language with frosted blur effects, redesigned icons, gesture-based animations, and a Living Flow visual design. Under the hood, Oppo claims chipset-level tuning aimed at steadier performance under heavy load, plus AI features including AI Mind Pilot with Agent Mode for multi-step document processing, and deeper links between phones and smart-home gadgets across Oppo's ecosystem.
The first handsets to ship with ColorOS 17 will be the Find X10 series, which goes global on October 21. For OnePlus loyalists, this is the end of an era — OxygenOS built its reputation on near-stock cleanliness and speed — and the beginning of a unified software future. Whether ColorOS 17 preserves what made OnePlus's software feel distinct is the question the October 13 reveal has to answer.
