  • Fitbit Edge Gets an October 12 Launch Date: Google's In-Between Wearable

Google's next wearable finally has a date. The Google Health account teased on X this week that a new Fitbit device — widely expected to be the Fitbit Edge — will be announced on October 12, with the tagline "Get an Edge on your health." The teaser shows only a close-up of the device's edge, but the message is clear enough.

The Fitbit Edge is shaping up to be the middle child of Google's 2026 wearables lineup. It would sit between the $99.99 Fitbit Air and the $349 Pixel Watch 5: a wearable with a real display, but not a full smartwatch. For anyone who finds the Air too basic and the Pixel Watch 5 overkill, this is the slot Google has left conspicuously empty.

Leaked details paint an appealing picture. The Edge is reported to pack a 1.34-inch AMOLED display, weigh just 17.7 grams, and carry an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. Battery life is claimed at up to 7 days — dropping to about 2 days with the always-on display enabled — with fast charging on board. Perhaps most interestingly, the battery is said to be user-replaceable, a rarity in modern wearables that would be a genuine differentiator.

On the health side, the leaks point to a skin temperature sensor, an ECG sensor, and atrial fibrillation (AFib) detection — serious health features for a mid-range tracker. Add Google Maps support, media controls, and a Find My Phone feature, plus compatibility with both Android and iOS, and you have got a well-rounded package.

Pricing has leaked at 179 euros in the Eurozone and 159 pounds in the UK, though Google has not confirmed anything — treat those numbers as provisional until Monday. Colors are expected to match the Pixel 11 and Pixel Watch 5 palettes.

The timing is no accident. With Apple's latest watches and Samsung's Galaxy lineup duking it out at the high end, Google is carving out the sensible middle: flagship-grade health sensors without the flagship smartwatch price or bulk. If the leaks hold, the Edge could be the default recommendation for anyone who wants a fitness tracker that does not look or feel like a compromise. We will know for sure on October 12.
